London 2012 Olympic Media Centre | CFA Piling | Keller UK

London 2012 Olympic Media Centre

Keller installed bearing piles beneath the Olympic Media Centre, a building designed to house the world‘s press and television crews. The ground underlying this site consists of Alluvium, River Terrace Deposits and the Lambeth Group.

Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling was considered to be the best approach to install a retaining wall which could sustain high lateral loads. The scheme required a tight programme.

The structure was built with two levels, the upper level being retained by a 600mm dia contiguous piled wall

Keller installed both 450 and 600mm diameter piles founded in the Lambeth Group.

These piles were designed to carry up to 2500KN and 1250Kn for the 600mm and 450mm diameter piles respectively. Pile lengths were up to 20.5m.

This project was completed within its tight time scale and was to budget.
