Keller are recruiting for a Head of HSEQ (UK). This role will be based at our office in Ryton on Dunsmore, Coventry.

Purpose of the Role

To lead the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) support function ensuring compliance with Keller Group, division and local statutory HSEQ requirements. The role shall facilitate the improved performance of both the operational (line) and supporting functions through direct support, collaboration, and encouragement.

Key Roles and Responsibilities



  • Assist the UK Leadership Teams in setting the Health, Safety, Environment, Quality, Wellbeing and Sustainability strategy each year. Monitor and report progress against the agreed objectives and targets. 
  • Provide competent advice and guidance on statutory and procedural HSEQ
  • compliance.
  • Assure the Directors of the business that competent resources are available to carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments of operational activities which includes the sites, offices, yards, and workshops.
  • In liaison with Divisional and Functional leads, develop HSEQ improvement plans that complement those at both Group and Divisional levels. These shall include specific Key Performance Areas/Indicators and responsibilities and accountabilities for tasks and governance.
  • Act as the technical expert in the provision of education, coaching, counselling, and mentoring to assist in the understanding and application of HSEQ requirements. 
  • Support the management in delivering business improvement programmes.
  • Retain overall responsibility for the maintenance of KIMS (Keller Integrated Management System) in conjunction with the Lean improvement programme. 
  • Facilitate development of procedures that will improve performance to the reduce frequency of unplanned events and rework. 
  • Ensure the HSEQ systems are designed and implemented in accordance with key ISO standards such as ISO9001, ISO45001 and ISO14001.
  • Facilitate investigations into high potential and significant incidents using an appropriate methodology.
  • Develop relationships with other Keller Group companies to be able to access support and knowledge.
  • Be responsible for the audit programme (in line with the ISO requirements). Manage external, internal and PLC audits.
  • To coordinate delivery of HSEQ business improvement projects for the UK business independently and in Joint ventures.


  • Facilitate development of policies and procedures that meet the needs of the business but also meet the requirements of our clients.
  • Maintain knowledge of current HSEQ management practices, trends, and technologies by developing industry working relationships and participating in exchange groups, associations and committees.
  • Input HSEQ advice and support for winning and planning new projects ensuring the early and complete integration of HSEQ.
  • Lead customer audits when required, using KIMS as a reference. Review and share customer comments.


  • Develop, facilitate, and coordinate training for HSEQ. This should be carried out in co-operation with the HR function.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure the successful delivery, implementation and administration of corporate Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Wellbeing policies, processes, and systems. Motivate and develop our employees (in particular the senior management team) in your area of influence. Be a coach.
  • Carry out annual and periodic performance reviews. Encourage professional development within the HSEQ Function.
  • Ensure the appropriate levels of reporting are carried out to meet relevant obligations. This shall include Bulletins, Incident Safety Shares, monthly HSEQ performance reporting and application of the PLC incident management system as a tracking and management tool.
  • Lead by demonstrating the required behaviours, attitudes, and mind-set to further develop a strong corporate safety culture.

Experience/Skills/Qualifications/Personal Attributes


  • Chartered Member of IOSH, or similar accreditation.
  • Practitioner Member of Chartered Quality Institute. 
  • Practitioner Member of Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
  • NVQ Level 5/NEBOSH Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • IEMA Accredited Certificate in Environmental Management. 
  • Lead Auditor Qualification in ISO45001. 
  • ISO9001 Internal Auditor Certification. 
  • ISO14001 Internal Auditor Certification. 
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Health, Safety, Environment and Quality.
  • Related post-secondary education (i.e. degree, diploma, or certificate) or equivalent combination of education and experience related to Health, Safety & Environment.
  • CSCS Card Holder.
  • A strong desire to develop a knowledge of a range of geotechnical products and solutions.
  • A track record of quality implementation, through a TQM, TPM, LEAN or Six
  • Sigma type programme.
  • A working knowledge of business processes and an ability to identify areas of improvement.
  • Knowledge of quality control techniques/systems.
  • IT literate, Office 365 including Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint.
  • Full driving licence.


  • Chartered Member of Chartered Quality Institute. 
  • Chartered Member of Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment. 
  • Lead Auditor Qualification in ISO14001. 
  • Lead Auditor Qualification in ISO9001.
  • Experience within joint ventures and major infrastructure projects.
