Keller came up with a Rigid Inclusion solution to replace the original piled option for a site that occupied multiple levels. The solution accelerated the follow-on works and cut the overall programme.
The construction of three, five and six storey student residential blocks at Clive Booth Student Village which is part of Oxford Brookes University.
The main challenge was to provide a solution through the weak water-bearing Head and Temple Cowley deposits to support significant loadings, while accommodating multiple working levels and other subterranean constraints.
RIs were installed beneath the raft foundations as illustrated below, providing support to heavy raft foundations with an average SLS of 100kN/m2. This solution also offered our client significant timescale efficiencies and cart-away savings over the original piled option. It also avoided clashes with old piles and new service routes.
